Artist at Work..New Collection!

Ladies and Gentleman,

I wanted to let you know that I will be introducing a new collection in 2011.  A series of 10 paintings. Think of music, bold colors, brightness and contrast.   Here are some pictures.

Here I am working on the first painting of this new collection. I started working on this collection in 2009.

"Model in dress"

16"x20"
Acrylic on canvas

Painting was created on 2007.  Did you know I was going to go to FIT to become a fashion designer?  Instead, I changed my mind and took the road my father once took and became a print designer.  I always wanted to design my own dresses but I didn't know how to sew, so I decided to paint it instead.  Easy way out huh?

Do-it-yourself: Artificial Indoor Plant Decor

If you love the green look but you are someone who forgets to water plants, maybe plants are not for you. Bringing artificial greenery to our space is your best bet. On one of Candice's Divine Design episode I noticed she used 3 square white vases for a kitchen redesign project. I didn't like the artificial plants she used, they looked like plastic grass.  I decided to do something similar. The great thing about making your own plant decoration is that you get to pick the artificial plants yourself so try to pick the ones that look the most real. This is a simple idea that brings such a rich accent to your home. It is stylish, modern and super fast to do.

Supplies:
Vase (I chose 2 square vases)
X-acto knife
Artificial moss
Artificial foliage
Foam block (choose one big enough for your vase.)
Directions: Cut the foam according to your vase. Once cut, stick the artificial plant wires into the foam block base. Create the fullness you want and start spreading them apart until you find the look you want. Place the finished foam in your vase. Cover the foam block with artificial moss and you are done! Wasn't that super easy?

Moss on top should look something like this:

Website Update

For those who know me know that I have been working on my website for a while. I have changed my website direction and decided to go with good old dreamweaver. I now only use www.artbyangeli.com for my fine art, still needs more updating so keep coming back. :-)

I have a separate online portfolio for my graphic design work. Anyone who is interested to see my work please visit DESIGN PORTFOLIO

"Bull Run"

36"x48" Acrylic on canvas
This painting was created in 2007. As you can see my style went in a different direction. I was inspired against animal cruelty and the softer touch of the brush was due to the music I was listening to. The colors in the other hand are dark and bold, almost like a bad dream. The rest I will leave it up to you to do the assumptions.

"Nude on Silk"

9"x13" Acrylic on canvas.
This painting is one of my earliest works. This was not included at my art exhibition since it is not for sale. I truly adore this one

Sew your own Robot Plushie!

You don't have to be an expert at sewing. In this post I will teach you how to sew your own robot plushie.
Supplies:
1/2 yard of gray fleece
gray, black, white and lime green all-purpose thread
sewing needle
scissors
a sharpie or pencil
pins for pinning the pieces together
fiberfill bag for stuffing
felt squares for decoration in color black, white and gray.

You separate the head, legs and arms and body with pins. Once you figure out the front of the face and the front part of the body, you can start sewing the felt details on the fleece.  After you are done applying the details you can  start sewing the head, stuff it  and attach the head to the body. Sew the feet, stuff it and attach it to the legs. Now you move to the arms, sew the hands first, stuff and attach it to the arms. Sew and Stuff the arms and finish it by attaching it to the body. Once you are done sewing the head, arms and legs to the body you can stuff the body and voila! If any questions feel free to leave a comment.
I have quickly traced the pattern from what I can remember but please feel free to make your own. Remember It doesn't have to be exact, that's what makes the robot so special.  I am attaching a picture of the arms sewn together since it's the most difficult part to do.
Here is a picture of the final product !

“Women In The Garden”

"Women in the garden" 16"x20"
Acrylic on canvas.

I created this in 2005. I wanted to introduce the modern shape of todays women. We are all so obsessed with counting calories and working out so I had to give this painting a fresh look but kept in mind the classic style. Who knows maybe I will paint a new Venus?

Designing Business Cards...

It's not as simple as you think. First, you have to come up with a design that you want to keep for a while. Then choosing the paper, colors and shopping for a printer that will provide the best quality.
When I decided to design my business cards, I knew I wanted something a little edgy but fun. I went with offset printing on Kraft recycle stock.  It's been 3 years and I still can't get enough of my business cards.
