The Little House Ornament: Free Printable

Hello everyone,

I can't believe it's already November and the holidays are just around the corner, time sure flies.

This year I have decided to make a couple of decorating projects because I really want my son to cherish each moment. One of the projects I will share with you today is something that reminds me of my childhood. Growing up in a Catholic home during Christmas was the best time of the year for a child. I couldn't wait to see the Christmas tree and decoration around the house. One of my favorite things was the nativity decoration.  The huge nativity set included a miniature Village, full of little houses and animals. It was mesmerizing to look at. I often imagined myself  going inside the little house to have tea. Ain't it great to be a child? =)

Anyway, This little house ornament comes in a 8.5x11 template it includes 4 awnings in different color options. You can mix and match with the color of roof you decided to use. I bought red and magenta roof but there were many colors of foam glitter sheets available.

SUPPLIES:
Foamies Glitter sheet with sticky backs.  $1 each (Michael's or Amazon)
Color Printer
Glue
Acrylic thread and needle
Scissors

Pinocchio Costume for toddler: Part 2

SHIRT AND COLLAR:
Find a shirt. Trace around it with a colored fabric pencil. First the back, then front and arms. If you are not comfortable doing this method you can deconstruct an old shirt. Turn the shirt right side in and cut along the seams until you have a front, back and 2 sleeves. Now use that as your new pattern.
(to view blue lines on shirt please zoom in)
Once you have sewn all the pieces for your shirt together, you draw lines to where you want your buttons to go and please measure them. Because you will want them to line up perfectly.
Buttonhole presser foot ready for fabric. (Read your manual before you start this process)

BOWTIE:
Very easy. Use my bowtie tutorial from previous post and alter it. You will want to round the corners of your rectangle and stuff them with a little bit of polyester filling and pound it flat. Then the next step is for you to add your middle part and keep following from the bowtie tutorial.

HAT:
(wool felt fabric lined with corduroy)
I have never made a hat before so the challenge was tough. I picked these 2 types of fabric because of the perfect yellow color and the corduroy because it will hold it together.
It turned out to be just perfect and kept my son's head cozy on the very chilly Halloween day.

How to Make a Pinocchio Costume: Part 1

Hello everyone,

I spent the last month creating my son's costume. I could have done it in shorter time, but once you have a toddler on your hands, you have very little time during the day to work on it. I have enjoyed and suffered throughout each process of creating this costume as I am still a beginner. I have never sewn buttons or buttonholes, so that part was new to me,  but once I did my first button it was a piece of cake. Also, I never ever made a hat from scratch so that was my second big task. My advice to you if you are staying away from buttonholes, buttons or zippers is to get to know your machine a little and everything will be so easy and much faster than by hand. This tutorial is based on my experience making the Pinocchio costume. It is not a sewing professional tutorial therefore if you like the finish product you can go ahead and follow the instructions. VEST:
This is easy. Take an old shirt from your son that he no longer wears and trace the shape of the back and front with chalk or white fabric pencil. Then you draw on the fabric the shape of the vest you want. Keep in mind it will be shorter than the regular vest.
After you sew pieces together you add the gold trim. You can either sew it or use fabric glue. I sewed the gold trim, I used a clear thread.

PANTS & SUSPENDERS:
Once again you trace any pair of shorts your little one wears and add 1/4 around it.
Follow the pants tutorial on previous post and draw a curve on the front part of the pants.

I added a blue strip to the sides of the pants and added gold trim to each side of the blue strip. Then sew the felt fabric decorations on the blue strip with red thread.

The red suspenders were made by using the same red fabric as the shorts. 2.5" wide and depending on your little one you choose the length. Sew it inside out and then turn it right side by using a safety pin. The last touches are sewing the big yellow buttons to the front of your shorts and creating button holes to fasten the straps. Make sure you measure with a ruler and draw your lines with your fabric pencil to be precise.
